Fieldwork Defined

   Fieldwork is the process of studying and collecting information about an individual’s philosophies, and the natural environment (Casinader & Kidman, 2018). In addition, it helps researchers find facts about people, places, and groups that exist around them. Moreover, it allows a deeper look into the way scientific approaches work together with real-life situations.

Three Challenges and ways to encourage change

   Several inequalities create challenges and deter the implementation of productive community-based fieldwork for researchers. Language seems to always be a barrier when implementing new programs due to multiple languages being spoken by individuals. The cost of translating research material into several languages can be very expensive. Also, particular actions and rigorous training will need to be implemented so that all individuals can understand the information being disseminated. Someone facing language challenges within their program should first research the population and spoken language in that area and identify individuals and additional resources to conduct with the translation of materials, and training in the languages required.  Moreover, technology can pose a different challenge in fieldwork due to vulnerabilities of disadvantaged communities which block participation, risk of damaging equipment, and poor (IT) infrastructure (Potnis & Gala, 2020). To help in overcoming this challenge, one can design technology solutions around their needs and weaknesses and organize technology resolutions within communities that will help build skills and knowledge for technology solutions. Last of all, forming partnerships with the incorrect stakeholders can bring a project to a halt and be one of the biggest risks due to increasing odds over decision-making, lack of trust, transparency, and support commitment. Ways of influencing stakeholders would be through meeting their needs, keeping them involved in all aspects of the program, and continuing to build good relationships of trust (Wanner, 2019).
